Five Hours Online Training Series
“Digital Wellness”
Digital technologies have become an inseparable part of education, profoundly transforming the ways in which
learners acquire knowledge, interact with peers, and engage with the wider world. While these tools expand
access, foster innovation, and enrich pedagogical practice, they also introduce complex challenges that
require critical reflection and informed responses. Within this dynamic context, the notion of digital
wellness emerges as a vital framework for safeguarding academic progress, personal safety, and psychological
wellbeing in schools.
The assurance of privacy, safety, and dignity in online environments has now become a defining
responsibility of the education system. Children and young people, as early and vulnerable users of digital
platforms, are at heightened risk of exposure to unsafe practices and violations of digital rights. By
equipping learners with the skills to engage responsibly and cultivating a culture of ethical digital
citizenship, educators can ensure that schools function as secure spaces where trust, respect, and
responsibility guide digital engagement.
Among the most pressing concerns in the contemporary digital age is the rise of cyberbullying and associated
harmful behaviours. Such experiences undermine the emotional resilience, confidence, and social development
of learners, often leaving lasting consequences on their educational journey. Schools, therefore, must adopt
both preventive and remedial strategies, underpinned by care, empathy, and accountability, in order to
create environments where learners are not only protected but also supported in developing resilience and
compassion.
Equally critical is the challenge of sustaining balance between screen use and mental wellbeing. Excessive
reliance on digital devices contributes to fatigue, diminished concentration, and a weakening of
interpersonal relationships. Promoting mindful digital habits, encouraging reflective use of technology, and
embedding routines that prioritise health and focus are essential steps towards ensuring that learners and
educators sustain cognitive energy, emotional stability, and overall wellness in a technology-saturated era.
Beyond the level of individual practice, digital wellness must become embedded within the institutional
ethos of schools. This requires systemic action through policies, structured pedagogical approaches, and
coordinated initiatives that treat digital safety and wellbeing not as optional add-ons but as fundamental
elements of twenty-first-century education. In this way, schools can evolve into communities that model
safe, inclusive, and responsible digital engagement.
Taken together, these perspectives point towards a comprehensive and multidimensional understanding of
digital wellness. By integrating conceptual clarity with evidence-based practices, this training programme
seeks to enhance the professional capacity of teachers, teacher educators, and school leaders. It aims to
empower them with the knowledge, strategies, and tools required to foster safe schools, cultivate healthy
minds, and prepare learners to thrive confidently and responsibly in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
Aligned with the vision of the National Education Policy 2020, this five-day online training programme
organised by CIET–NCERT aspires to build a comprehensive understanding of digital wellness as a
transformative paradigm for fostering safe schools and healthy minds. The English version of the training
