"ICT for Teaching and Learning of Mathematics"

The integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into education has become imperative, as outlined in Section 23.6 of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. This integration is designed to transform educational practices, providing a technologically advanced environment that promotes engagement, flexibility, and personalized learning. In mathematics education, ICT tools are instrumental in addressing the diverse learning needs of students, enabling educators to offer tailored educational experiences that foster inclusivity and enhance learning outcomes.

The learning of mathematics often presents challenges for both educators and learners. Traditional teaching methods may not fully address these challenges or accommodate the varied learning preferences of students. By employing ICT, particularly Free and Open Source Software (FOSS), educators can develop dynamic and interactive digital resources, such as simulations, instructional games, and interactive graphs. These resources serve to deepen conceptual understanding, motivate learners, and facilitate greater engagement. GeoGebra, a widely recognized tool, integrates algebra, geometry, and calculus, providing visualizations and interactive learning experiences that encourage analytical thinking and problem-solving.

Furthermore, Clause 24.4 (d) of NEP 2020 underscores the importance of creating a comprehensive repository of digital educational resources. By leveraging digital tools, educators can deliver interactive visualizations, personalized instruction, and effective assessments, ensuring that mathematics education is accessible and engaging for a broad spectrum of learners.

In line with this vision, CIET-NCERT is organizing a five-day online training program titled “ICT for Teaching and Learning of Mathematics.” The training will be conducted in two versions: the English version from 14ᵗʰ to 18ᵗʰ October 2024, and the Hindi version from 21ˢᵗ to 25ᵗʰ October 2024. The sessions will be held daily from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm, providing educators with comprehensive insights into integrating ICT tools into their mathematics instruction.

Objectives of Training:

1. Understand the significance of ICT in contemporary mathematics education.

2. Examine the need and scope of ICT for the teaching and learning of mathematics.

3. Develop expertise in integrating audio and video resources into mathematics instruction.

4. Explore the use of FOSS tools, such as GeoGebra, for effective mathematics teaching.

5. Investigate the application of immersive technologies to the teaching of mathematical concepts.

6. Identify and utilize digital games and applications to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.

7. Foster innovative pedagogical approaches using ICT to address the diverse learning needs of students in mathematics education.
