"ICT for Teaching and Learning of Science"

The integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in education is an important goal of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, as mentioned in Section 23.6. This integration aims to improve teaching and learning by creating a modern and engaging environment that supports flexibility and personalized learning. In science education, ICT tools are especially useful for meeting the diverse needs of students and helping teachers make learning more inclusive and effective.

Science teaching often comes with unique challenges. Traditional methods may not fully address the needs of all students. Using ICT tools, teachers can create interactive resources such as simulations, instructional videos, and virtual labs. These tools help students understand complex concepts, make learning interesting, and increase participation. Technologies like immersive learning and digital applications encourage critical thinking and problem-solving skills in students.

Clause 24.4 (d) of NEP 2020 also highlights the need for a strong collection of digital educational resources. ICT tools help teachers provide clear visual explanations, personalized guidance, and effective assessments, making science education more accessible and engaging for everyone.

In line with this vision, CIET-NCERT is organizing a five-day online training program titled “ICT for Teaching and Learning of Science.” The training will be conducted in two versions: the English version from 16ᵗʰ to 20ᵗʰ December 2024, and the Hindi version from 23ʳᵈ to 29ᵗʰ December 2024. This program is designed to help teachers learn how to use ICT tools in science classrooms effectively. The sessions will be held daily from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, offering teachers practical strategies and tools for better science teaching.

Objectives of Training:
  1. Understand the role of ICT in enhancing science education.
  2. Examine the scope and application of ICT tools in teaching and learning processes.
  3. Develop proficiency in integrating audio and video resources into science pedagogy.
  4. Explore Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) for effective science instruction.
  5. Analyze the potential of immersive technologies in simplifying complex scientific concepts.
