“ICT for Teaching and Learning of Languages”

The integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) within education is a pivotal objective of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, as outlined in Section 23.6. This integration seeks to advance pedagogical practices by fostering an engaging and contemporary learning environment, promoting flexibility, and facilitating personalised instruction. Within the domain of language education, ICT tools serve as invaluable resources, addressing diverse learner needs and enabling educators to create inclusive and effective learning experiences.

Language instruction is accompanied by distinct pedagogical challenges. Conventional teaching methodologies may not adequately address the varied requirements of all learners. ICT tools empower educators to develop interactive instructional resources, such as simulations, multimedia content, and virtual labs. These resources facilitate comprehension of intricate linguistic concepts, enhance learner engagement, and foster active participation. Emerging technologies, including immersive learning environments and digital applications, further encourage critical thinking and problem-solving competencies among students.

Clause 24.4 (d) of NEP 2020 underscores the imperative of establishing a robust repository of digital educational resources. ICT tools support educators in delivering precise visual explanations, tailored guidance, and robust assessments, thereby rendering language education more accessible and intellectually stimulating.

Aligned with this vision, CIET-NCERT is organising a five-day online training programme entitled “ICT for Teaching and Learning of Languages”. This programme will be conducted in two versions: the English version from 13ᵗʰ to 17ᵗʰ January 2025 and the Hindi version from 20th to 24ᵗʰ January 2025. This initiative is designed to equip educators with the skills to seamlessly integrate ICT tools into language instruction. The sessions will be convened daily from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, offering participants pragmatic strategies and tools to elevate language teaching.

Objectives :

1. Examine the transformative role of ICT in enhancing language pedagogy.

2. Analyse the potential scope and application of ICT tools within instructional practices.

3. Cultivate proficiency in the integration of audio and video resources into language teaching methodologies.

4. Explore the utilisation of advanced digital tools for effective language instruction.

5. Evaluate the pedagogical implications of virtual laboratories in elucidating complex linguistic constructs.

6. Address critical concerns related to the deployment of digital technologies in language education.
