“ICT for Teaching and Learning of Social Sciences”
The integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in education is a key priority outlined in Section 23.6 of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. ICT plays a crucial role in modernising teaching and learning by creating interactive, flexible, and personalised learning experiences. It fosters engagement, enhances accessibility, and helps educators implement innovative instructional strategies.
In social sciences education, ICT tools serve as essential resources that help cater to diverse learning needs. Digital platforms, multimedia content, and virtual tools provide opportunities for enriched classroom instruction. These technologies enable educators to present complex concepts in an engaging and simplified manner, making learning more effective.
Traditional teaching approaches in social sciences often struggle to address the varied learning styles of students. ICT tools support educators in designing interactive and learner-centred activities that promote deeper understanding. By incorporating simulations, digital storytelling, and geographic information systems, students can explore historical events, cultural studies, and geographical phenomena more dynamically.
Emerging technologies such as immersive environments, digital mapping, and visualisation tools enhance analytical skills and critical thinking. Interactive platforms like Google Earth and Bhuvan offer new perspectives on spatial analysis and socio-economic studies. These tools foster inquiry-based learning, enabling students to actively explore and analyse real-world issues.
Clause 24.4 (d) of NEP 2020 emphasises the need to develop a strong repository of digital educational resources. ICT tools assist educators in delivering precise explanations, personalised guidance, and comprehensive assessments. As a result, social sciences education becomes more engaging, accessible, and intellectually stimulating.
Aligned with this vision, CIET-NCERT is organising a five-day online training programme titled “ICT for Teaching and Learning of Social Sciences.” This programme will be conducted in two versions: the English version from 17ᵗʰ to 21ˢᵗ February 2025 and the Hindi version from 24ᵗʰ to 28ᵗʰ February 2025. The sessions, scheduled daily from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, will equip educators with practical strategies and digital tools to enhance social sciences teaching.
The sessions will be broadcast live on NCERT’s YouTube Channel and simulcast on PM eVidya DTH TV Channels (6 to 12) and the Jio TV mobile app. Participants will also have access to recorded sessions through a dedicated YouTube playlist, enabling them to revisit key insights at their convenience.
