NEP-2020 has recommended creation of virtual laboratories so that all students have equal access to quality practical and hands-on experiment based learning experiences. Policy has also suggested content creation of virtual reality and augmented reality so as to help students understand concepts in a better way by visualising them with the help of Virtual reality and Augmented reality.
Experiments or laboratory work are vital for learners. They are useful in understanding the theories and concepts of science or other subjects that cannot be studied alone only by textbooks. Though, there is no substitute to direct hands-on experience of a physical laboratory, virtual laboratory has the great potential to enhance actual laboratory experiences. These Virtual Lab and related resources can help students in visualising the concepts in a better manner.
Virtual reality resources increase interest, add fun, help to understand difficult concepts, make learning engaging by being in virtual spaces to learn the concepts in a simulated environment. To realise this goal, Virtual lab vertical on DIKSHA was launched on 29th July, 2020 and Experiential Learning Centre is established at CIET, NCERT which is equipped with virtual reality, augmented reality resources and systems for displaying resources available in Virtual labs vertical.
