“Mental and Physical Well-being in the Era of Cyberspace”

The rapid expansion of digital technology has transformed how individuals interact, learn, and work, offering unprecedented convenience and accessibility. However, this shift has also introduced challenges that significantly impact both mental and physical well-being. Prolonged screen exposure, information overload, and the pressure to stay constantly connected contribute to stress, anxiety, reduced concentration, and declining physical health. As digital engagement becomes an unavoidable part of daily life, it is essential to adopt strategies that promote a balanced approach to technology use, ensuring that individuals maintain their mental clarity, emotional stability, and physical wellness while navigating the online world.

Recognising these concerns, the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 highlights the need for integrating mental wellness and digital literacy into education. The policy acknowledges that learners, educators, and parents must be equipped with the knowledge and skills to manage screen time, identify signs of digital fatigue, and incorporate self-care practices into their daily routines. By fostering awareness of digital stressors and their psychological impact, NEP 2020 emphasises the importance of creating a structured and supportive environment for mental and physical health in the digital era.

One of the critical challenges today is the excessive use of digital devices, which not only affects mental well-being but also leads to physical health issues such as eye strain, sleep disturbances, and sedentary lifestyles. The growing dependency on technology has made it necessary to establish healthy boundaries, ensuring that individuals engage in offline activities, practice mindfulness, and incorporate physical exercise to counterbalance the negative effects of prolonged screen exposure. Understanding the impact of screen time and implementing effective management techniques can help individuals maintain a healthy relationship with technology while prioritising their overall well-being.

To address these challenges, CIET-NCERT is organising a five-hour online training programme titled "Mental and Physical Well-being in the Era of Cyberspace." This initiative aims to provide practical strategies for managing screen time, overcoming technology addiction, exploring digital well-being tools, and understanding personal and institutional responsibilities in maintaining mental and physical health. Led by experts in the field, the sessions will focus on evidence-based approaches to promoting mental resilience, fostering self-regulation, and ensuring responsible digital usage.

This programme will be conducted in two language versions. The English version is scheduled from 3 to 7 February 2025, while the Hindi version will take place from 10 to 14 February 2025. The sessions will be broadcast live on NCERT’s YouTube Channel and simulcast on PM eVidya DTH TV Channels (6 to 12) and the Jio TV mobile app. Participants will also have access to recorded sessions through a dedicated YouTube playlist, enabling them to revisit key insights at their convenience. By engaging in this training, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of mental and physical well-being in cyberspace, equipping them with the skills and knowledge required to maintain a balanced, mindful, and healthier digital lifestyle.
