Media & Information Literacy
Media literacy empowers students to apply critical thinking to media messages, enabling them to decode and analyze media messages effectively. It involves accessing diverse media sources, understanding the techniques used to influence audiences, and assessing the credibility and impact of media messages and creating their own messages. Media literacy helps us to understand the spread of misinformation by empowering students or individuals to distinguish what is credible from falsehoods. In today's world, media is an integral part of our daily lives. Nonetheless, many people lack the knowledge and critical thinking skills required to understand and interpret information, and some are unaware of how media sources influence their opinions and decisions. Reviewing media literacy definitions, terminology, and real-world examples can help one improve their ability to decipher meaning. In fact, it is almost impossible to imagine modern education without an important component like media literacy.
CIET-NCERT organizes a 5 hours training series on Educational Technology in the third (English version) and fourth week (Hindi Version) of every month. For the month of August, 2024, a 5 hours online training on "Media & Information Literacy" from 19th - 23rd August 2024 in English version and 26th - 30th August 2024 in Hindi version from 4.00 pm - 5.00 pm will be organised.
Objectives :
1. To Understand Media and Information Literacy concepts and theories
2. Assess the role of media literacy in promoting critical thinking and informed citizenship.
3. To effectively Integrate media literacy into existing curriculum and educational practices.
4. Develop critical thinking skills to access, analyze and evaluate media content.
5. Enhance digital literacy skills for effective navigation of online information.
6. Promote critical analysis of Advertisements.
7.Promote critical analysis of news reports and their sources.
8.Promote non violent communication through MIL.
9. Develop skills to construct media messages in a variety of forms.
10.Develop skills to identify and counter violent and aggressive media content.

Step 2: Watch live training sessions and learn about the topic:
Attend training sessions, which will be live-streamed on NCERT Official YouTube channel - http://youtube.com/ncertofficial from 19th August - 23rd August, 2024 at 4:00- 5:00 pm (Monday to Friday). The session will also be telecasted live on the following:

Step: 3 Take up the online course, participate in post assessment and get certified:
Those who are interested in getting a certificate, they need to do the following:
- Join the online course that will be launched on DIKSHA portal.

This course will be open till 30 March, 2025. - Participants need to join the course, go through all the five videos.
- Participants need to take up the final assessment. Participants can attempt thrice.
- Participants who score 70% and above in the final assessment will get a certificate and they can access their certificate in their DIKSHA profile page itself. It may take 15-20 days to receive the certificate.
