“Microlearning and Nano Courses to Enhance Teaching-Learning”

In the evolving landscape of digital education, microlearning and nano courses have emerged as transformative approaches that prioritise precision, personalisation, and flexibility in content delivery. These formats respond to the pace and preferences of contemporary learners – delivering targeted knowledge in concise, engaging formats. Designed to fit seamlessly into everyday routines, they offer opportunities for continuous learning that is accessible, adaptable, and aligned with emerging educational demands. The opening session of this training series highlights the foundational principles, potential, and evolving role of microlearning in today’s pedagogical environments.

As the demand for modular and outcomes-driven content increases, pedagogical design becomes central to ensuring impact. Effective microlearning requires more than brevity – it demands structure, alignment, and clarity. Subsequent sessions in the training focus on the design of bite-sized digital modules that preserve depth while promoting learner engagement. Emphasis is placed on cognitive sequencing, goal alignment, and inclusive design practices, ensuring that compact content remains both effective and contextually meaningful.

Multimedia and interactive tools are integral to enhancing the engagement and accessibility of short-format learning. Their thoughtful integration transforms static materials into dynamic experiences, allowing learners to interact, reflect, and respond in real time. The training explores various media formats and interactive components that support multisensory learning, cognitive stimulation, and differentiated instruction, thereby enriching the learner journey across platforms.

Engagement remains the cornerstone of effective learning. A dedicated session in this programme explores strategies to engage learners through micro and nano course formats, with emphasis on interaction, motivation, personal relevance, and sustained attention. The discussion addresses the role of storytelling, gamified content, peer feedback, and active learning elements in fostering participation and promoting meaningful connection between the learner and the learning experience.

Assessment and feedback remain critical components of any educational process. In microlearning, these elements must be embedded, immediate, and formative. The concluding segment of the training examines strategies for integrating meaningful assessment within short-format content, providing timely insights that inform both teaching and learning. Digital tools that support real-time tracking, automated feedback, and competency validation are also considered.

Aligned with the vision of the National Education Policy 2020, this five-day online training programme organised by CIET- NCERT aims to build a comprehensive understanding of microlearning and nano courses as transformative educational approaches. The English version of the training will be conducted from 14 July to 18 July 2025, and the Hindi version from 21 July to 25 July 2025, with live sessions scheduled daily from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. This initiative brings together foundational insights and future-ready practices to support the meaningful integration of focused, flexible learning formats into the teaching-learning process.

The sessions will be broadcast live on NCERT’s YouTube Channel and simulcast on PM eVidya DTH TV Channels (6 to 12) and the Jio TV mobile app. Participants will also have access to recorded sessions through a dedicated YouTube playlist, enabling them to revisit core concepts and apply key strategies in their own teaching-learning contexts.

Objectives of Training:

After completion of the training series, the learner will be able to:

  1. Understand the foundational principles of microlearning and nano courses.
  2. Design structured, outcome-oriented digital learning modules
  3. Integrate multimedia and interactive elements to enhance instructional delivery.
  4. Facilitate self-paced and competency-based learning environments.
  5. Implement appropriate assessment and feedback mechanisms.
  6. Uphold standards of quality, accessibility, and scalability in short-format content.
