Five-Hour Online Training on
“Social Media Safety”
The proliferation of digital technologies, particularly social media, has profoundly transformed modes of communication, education, and public discourse. While offering opportunities for expression and collaboration, these platforms simultaneously present critical risks concerning privacy, misinformation, and psychological well-being. It is, therefore, imperative to foster a nuanced understanding of social media safety, especially in academic and professional settings.
The session titled “The Digital Public Square: Understanding Social Media and Its Impact” will offer foundational insights into the architecture and influence of social media in shaping digital behaviour and societal norms. This session will foreground the necessity of engaging critically with content and understanding platform dynamics.
“Privacy Matters: Protecting Personal Data and Digital Footprint” will focus on digital surveillance, consent, data protection laws, and strategies for preserving privacy in interconnected digital ecosystems. Participants will be sensitised to the risks of oversharing and the long-term consequences of unmanaged digital identities.
The session on “Risks & Red Flags: Cyber Threats and Online Harms on Social Media” will delve into emerging threats such as phishing, cyberbullying, identity theft, and malicious content propagation. Emphasis will be placed on identification, prevention, and reporting mechanisms for online harms.
“Think Before You Share: Ethics, Misinformation, and Digital Citizenship” will unpack the ethical dimensions of content sharing, disinformation, and echo chambers. The discourse will reinforce the importance of digital responsibility and informed participation in the online public sphere.
The concluding session, “Becoming a CyberPeace Ambassador Educator and Student: Tools, Tips, and Reporting”, will equip participants with actionable tools, pedagogical strategies, and reporting protocols to champion cyber safety and responsible use of social media within their respective communities.
To address these evolving dimensions, CIET-NCERT, in collaboration with the CyberPeace Foundation (CPF), is organising a five-day online training programme titled “Social Media Safety”. This initiative brings together experts from across the country to examine key concerns related to social media architecture, data privacy, cyber threats, ethical participation, and digital citizenship. Aligned with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the programme seeks to promote safe, informed, and responsible engagement in online social environments, particularly among educators and learners.
The training will be conducted in two versions: the English version from 2ⁿᵈ to 6ᵗʰ June 2025 and the Hindi version from 9ᵗʰ to 13ᵗʰ June 2025, with sessions scheduled daily from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. All sessions will be broadcast live from the CIET-NCERT studio via NCERT’s YouTube Channel, PM eVidya DTH TV Channels (6 to 12), and the JioTV mobile app. Recordings will also be made available through a dedicated playlist to ensure continued access and flexible learning.
