Online Training on
"Integration of Virtual Labs in Teaching-Learning" Phase 3
The global education development agenda reflected in Goal 4 (SDG4) of the 2030 Agenda for
Sustainable Development, adopted by India in 2015 - seeks to “ensure inclusive and equitable
quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all” by 2030. To accomplish
Goal 4, NEP 2020 emphasized creating virtual labs so that all students have equal access to
quality practical and hands-on experiment-based learning experiences.
With the increasing challenges posed by technological advancements, the young generation is
required to develop skills in critical thinking and problem-solving. Such opportunities can be
provided to learners through pedagogical modifications. Pedagogy must evolve to make
education more experiential, inquiry-driven, discovery-oriented, learner-centered,
discussion-based, flexible, and enjoyable. This can be achieved by following the
learning-by-doing approach.
Learning by doing is a process in which learners understand concepts by their experience which
they get by engaging in the activities. This gives them a chance to explore and dive into the
details. Teachers can support by using hands-on and creative modes of learning on a regular
basis.
As per the recommendation of NEP 2020, Virtual Labs were launched on DIKSHA on 29th July
2022, which not only help learners but educators as well by making learning experiential, using
simulator students understand concepts by performing experiments online not merely by
watching videos or reading text.
Technological advancements have provided a plethora of tools to teachers that can be used in
their regular classroom to provide experiential learning. One such tool is Virtual Labs which is
available on DIKSHA. This vertical was launched on 29th July 2022 as per the recommendation
of NEP 2020 clause 24.4 which states “Existing e-learning platforms such as DIKSHA,
SWAYAM, and SWAYAMPRABHA will also be leveraged for creating virtual labs so that all
students have equal access to quality practical and hands-on experiment-based learning
experiences”.
Virtual labs provide a variety of resources including animations, self-evaluation questions, and most importantly simulations, which give hands-on experience of experiments promoting learning by doing approach. To make effective use of these rich resources, teachers and students need in-depth orientation from the purpose to pedagogical incorporation to self-paced learning using Virtual Labs.
In this context, CIET-NCERT is organizing an online training on “Integration of Virtual Labs in Teaching-Learning” Phase 3 from 16-26 December 2024 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am to leverage the understanding of teachers, students, teacher educators, administrators, and various stakeholders on utilization of DIKSHA Virtual Labs to enrich the classroom experiences.
