Five-Hour Online Training on
“Media Literacy”
The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 recognizes the importance of media literacy as a crucial skill for students in the digital age. It emphasizes the need for students to develop critical thinking, digital literacy, and media awareness to navigate the complexities of the modern information landscape. It is not just about knowing how to use media, but about understanding it deeply. In today’s world, we are surrounded by news, videos, social media posts, advertisements, and entertainment content every day. Media literacy helps students make sense of this information and decide what to believe, what to question, and what to ignore. The policy focuses on building critical thinking skills, so that learners can check the source of information, compare it with other reliable sources, and identify bias or hidden agendas. It also teaches them to recognise fake news, misinformation, and harmful content, and understand the impact that media can have on their thoughts, emotions, and behaviour.
Media literacy in NEP 2020 is also about responsible participation. Students are encouraged not only to consume media thoughtfully but also to create their own messages whether in writing, video, or digital form in a way that is ethical, respectful, and lawful. It connects closely with digital safety, meaning that learners know how to protect their privacy, maintain a positive digital footprint, and interact respectfully with others online. By integrating media literacy into school education across different subjects and activities, NEP 2020 aims to produce informed citizens who can navigate the fast-changing digital world with awareness, confidence, and responsibility.
Aligned with the vision of the National Education Policy 2020, CIET-NCERT is organising a five hours online training series titled “Media Literacy” in collaboration with IIMC, New Delhi during 13 - 17 October, 2025 in English version from 4 PM to 5 PM.
